Budapest, the capital of Hungary is not just renowned for its remarkable architecture but also its flavorful cuisine. From cheap Goulash to exquisite meals, Budapest has something for everyone.

The capital currently has 7 Michelin starred restaurants, which is well below other European capitals like Paris (119 Michelin restaurants) or London (71 Michelin restaurants) but as we have established before, a restaurant doesn’t necessarily need a star to be delicious. One of these is Könyv Bar & Restaurant in Budapest’s Jewish Quarter. As soon you as step inside, you’ll feel like stepping into someone’s living room. The interior is dominated by book shelves providing a cozy and homey feeling.

The special twist in this fine dining restaurant is their book inspired tasting menus. At the time of our visit, Lord of the Rings was the theme and what an experience that was! Each dish was named after a character or an event of the book and the staff elaborately told us a piece of the story related to that dish.

Everything was tasty and even though the Goulash was a tad too salty, we highly enjoyed the other dishes – a restaurant worth visiting if you are a book enthusiast or appreciate local food being pimped up.

Price Range: the 5-course meal was 65€ and as a la carte, starters range from 10-15€ and mains from 15-30€
